The tool this page covers is TaxMetra, an income tax and take-home pay calculator. Put simply, it estimates income tax and net pay for the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Germany, showing brackets, deductions, refund and per-paycheck net, and the way it does so is this: it applies each country's progressive brackets to taxable income after the standard deduction, then divides the annual figure by the number of pay periods, which is why the per-paycheck number changes when you change the pay frequency. Everything stated here applies to that tool and the values it handles, and to nothing else.

In day-to-day use the tool works only from the income and filing details you enter, and it is usually opened for things like checking take-home pay after a raise. None of that reaches us, so none of it can be stored.

For information, not advice

Everything on taxmetra.com is provided for general information and education. Results are estimates produced from what you enter, not measurements, and not professional advice. TaxMetra is built to be useful, not authoritative.

About the financial figures

Unless a page states otherwise, the financial calculators here hold rates constant, assume steady contributions and set aside fees and inflation. Reality is messier. Treat every TaxMetra figure as an illustration and never as the single basis for a money decision.

Links to other sites

Where we link to an outside source it is for reference. We do not control that content and are not responsible for its accuracy.

Advertising and independence

Adverts pay for the Site and nothing more. They cannot influence a result, and an ad appearing here is not a recommendation.

No warranty of any kind

On TaxMetra the key assumption is that you entered a case the method covers. It applies each country's progressive brackets to taxable income after the standard deduction, then divides the annual figure by the number of pay periods, which is why the per-paycheck number changes when you change the pay frequency. Within that we choose the method and inputs carefully; outside it, and wherever rounding, unit handling or browser quirks intrude, the Site comes with no warranty.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for checking that a result suits your situation before acting on it. If something looks wrong, tell us through the contact page — we would rather fix it than be right.
